Jelinek, Static, Nassima, Valeo | Oct 23 2007 at The Annex

This Tuesday, October 23rd, 2007 is the first installment of a new event series entitled “The Future is Beautiful.” It’s aim is to bring a wide variety of electronically created and influenced music to the ears of NYC without focusing on any single genre or style, simply focusing on quality. To kick off the series, the Berlin based Jan Jelinik and Static will bring their signature sounds to The Annex (152 Orchard between Rivington and Stanton) in NYC. The evening will begin at 9:00pm and go until 2:00am in order to make sure that you can actually make it to work the next day. The cover is $5.

About the performers:

Jan Jelinek

Jan Jelinek, signed to the venerable German label, ~scape, has been involved in the electronic music scene since the late 90’s. He brings together a wide variety of styles under his given name as well as the monikers of Gramm and Farben. His seminal album, “loop finding jazz records” - released in 2001, put him on the map and people really took notice. Things have been progressing ever since. This artist’s work is truly inspiring to listen to. See the links below for more info about him, his releases, and reviews of his work.

Static aka Hanno Leichtmann

Hanno comes to us from the worlds of jazz and free jazz and he has performed with many international known free improvising and electronic musicians, including: John Zorn, Toshi Nakamura, the European String Quintet, Sam Auinger and Rupert Huber. In recent years he has been focusing on his own productions under monikers of Static, Vulva String Quartett, Forest Jackson and White Hole.

In addition to his solo projects, Hanno Leichtmann plays in the POLE live band, as well as in a trio with Jan Jelinek and Andrew Pekler, called KOSMISCHER PITCH.

RJ Valeo

Valeo, born New York, is perhaps best know for his seminal album “September” on the UK’s Type Records released in 2003. Since then he has decided to listen to his body as well as his mind, and has been focusing his meticulous beat programming and production skills on crafting subtle and heady techno-house. As all of his music has been, these dance floor productions were influenced by microsound, industrial, new wave, and his gear itself, and have been making their way onto dj playlists all over the world. His most recent release, “Mission To Mars”, released on NYC’s Moodgadget Records has been compared to works by Kraftwerk, Plastikman and Audion. His compositions as well as his live performances focus on the interplay or rhythm, bass and minimally placed melodic elements.

Igal Nassima

Originally from Istanbul, Igal moved to NYC to pursue his passion for dance music. The growing minimal techno movement in New York City proved to be a magnificent new home for his glitchy, off center style of Djing. He has played alongside the talented DJs and producers such as Ryan Elliot, Ryan Crossan, Hakan Libdo, Tim Xavier and Nick AC.

After the downfall of the club scene NYC, Igal decided to put his own events together. Influenced by the concrete of the city, the rawness of Brooklyn’s loft structures, and his passion for techno, he created loft.n.space, a late-late-night after-hours party series hosted with fellow NYC transplant and techno DJ, Vadim. Amongst the international guests to perform at this series were Dan Bell (Tresor), Zip & Sammy Dee (Perlon), Alka_Rex (Supralinear, Resopal), Vince Lemieux (Musique Risquée), Pheek (Minus, Archipel).

Igal currently holds court at NYC’s latest addition to the burgeoning underground minimal techno scene with a residency and curatorial seat at LESS, held every Saturday night at The Annex (152 Rivington). Fans and foes alike have been warming to this relative new comer hailing him as one of NYC’s most promising minimal techno Djs.
