The Future Is Beautiful’s goal is to bring a fine selection of live electronic music and visual performances to Brooklyn and NYC, spanning genres and styles. We curate our events based on the simple idea that music feels good, and if presented in the proper environment the feelings of the artists are broadcast and picked up by the listeners.
Early evening (from 8 - 11) we present down-tempo listening music. We curate the early evening to be a genre-spanning multi-media experience. All of the acts are selected not only for their musical content, but for the visual experience they provide as well. We set up chairs in the space so you can sit down and enjoy the sights and sounds without having to be distracted by standing. Things really do sound different when you can sit. You can even order food. It is a truly amazing experience - seating is limited, so arrive early.
As the evening progresses, the lights go down, and the music picks up. The chairs disappear and the night transforms. Around midnight everything is complete and the night is alive.
The whole experience is gradual, and wonderfully spiritual. If you haven’t been to a TFIB event yet than you really are missing something special. A pristine and clear sound system, visual stimulation, a respectful and attentive crowd, and a venue that is intimate.
Welcome to The Future Is Beautiful.
This month we bring you a fine selection of performances spanning the genres of drone and folktronic to hip hop and techno.

Praveen Sharma has been making music for most of his life, and has contributed releases to AI, Neo Ouija, and Expanding Records. He also runs Percussion Lab, a hub for underground electronic music and exclusive DJ sets, in addition to being an avid live performer and event organizer in New York City. His most recent set of releases are based on a profound journey through his family’s native India. During his journey Praveen gathered a minidisk full of field recordings and voices. Upon his return to the US, Praveen accompanied by Kranky’s Benoit Pioulard crafted ‘Song Spun Simla’ based on these sounds. SSS, Praveen’s second album is available now, on NYC’s Music Related Records. In addition, this month marks the release of Songs Spun Simla remixes, on NYC’s Moodgadget.

MON.KEY.POD is Christian Eric Reinhardsen, Justin Miller, and Ryan Casey. Utilizing a mix of analogue synth, wet bass, dirty drums and static laden samples, Mon.Key.Pod composes a cinematic blend of dark electronic rock and hard hip hop. The result is a mixture of science fiction monkeys, b-movie horror, psychedelic dance party’s, 8-bit crunk, and dirty south heavy metal. Add to this some gritty VHS video projection and Mon.Key.Pod’s live show is truly something to be heard, seen, and felt.

Brooklyn’s Mux Mool is set to blow it up in 2009. Mux rose to popularity after inclusion on iTunes’ best of 2006 list, with the classic “Lost and Found.” His hard work and productions solidified him as an iTunes triple-threat in 2008. With the help of a remix by Machinedrum he claimed: Best Track “Death 9000 (Machinedrum Remix),” Best New Artist” for the “Drum EP,” and a slot on the Best Instrumental Album, Moodgadget’s “The Synchronicity Suite”.

Known throughout NYC, Berlin and Chicago, Atomly is a fixture in the dance music. He DJs regularly at underground techno weeklies and after hours parties, where he folds deep-grooved machine music into heavy doses of housey soul with ease. Releasing his productions on his own Atomiq Records as well as Brooklyn’s Wolf + Lamb imprint, Atomly is no stranger to making the music others play. Pushing boundaries and making weird sounds is his style, and we are honored to have Atomly perform his first LIVE PA of 2009 at The Future Is Beautiful this month.

For this month’s edition we will skip the snappy description and get right to the meat of things. Door open at 7:30, music begins promptly at 8pm.
Come early and celebrate Jessi’s 30th birthday with wonderful oysters during performances by NY favorites Morgan Packard, Ezekiel Honig and Calmer. Josh Ott is going to be performing with Zeke and Morgan using his custom built ‘Superdraw’ platform. If you haven’t seen ‘Superdraw’ you really need to get out more. It really is ‘future-beautiful’.
Following the relaxing and atmospheric stylings of the early evening’s sonic explorations we have Isomer Transition playing selections from unreleased and upcoming projects from the transelectronic vaults. Following Isomer we have plenty of electronic future music to go around. Jen Lusker, a NYC fixture will be gracing the decks, followed by the infamous Patrick Gallagher truly mashing it up, and finishing the night off, in honor of his friend Jessi’s 30th is the legendary Derek Plaslaiko.
For your visual stimulation Chika will be bringing her unique brand of VJing to the big screen, and Zach will be taking pictures, so there is no way you can say you were there if you weren’t.
All that and enough bass to shake light fixtures from the ceiling. Not even close to kidding, it happened last month.
Bass, that’s right.
Here are the set times.
8:00 Morgan Packard w/Josh Ott
9:00 Ezekiel Honig w/Josh Ott
10:00 Calmer
10:40 Isomer Transition
12:00 Jen Lusker
1:00 Patrick Gallagher
2:00 Derek Plaslaiko
$5 admission all night - to help cover the cost for the sound and the performers. More would be amazing.
Come early and stay late. No need to eat humans, there is plenty of food at Coco66.
The Future Is Beautiful is a monthly event dedicated to bringing you the best electronic music that NYC has to offer. Our approach is simple and two-fold: by focusing on local talent rather than a genre or style, we shed a spot light on, and provide a forum for the variety of producers, performers and musicians that emanate from NYC. Additionally, we partner with like minded organizations from other urban centers, such as Philly, London, Chicago, Boston, LA and Berlin to provide a portal from which artists from those cities can connect to and perform for an open minded and supportive audience here.
For our inaugural event this Valentine’s Day we have created a very special and romantic evening. To begin the evening we have decided to forgo music (just this once) and show a cinematic master piece by Fellini (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Federico_Fellini), called ‘Cabiria’ (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KFU22LC3hDw). During the show we will be serving dinner from a limited menu that will be available at the venue. The food is wonderful and from the venue’s restaurant, Coco66.
Following TFIB Cinema we have selected a wide range of music to ‘get you in the mood’. Starting off we have Alexander Basset (recently transplanted from Chicago) beginning the evening out with some slow house and new disco. Following up Alex is NYC’s long time resident and TFIB resident Patrick Gallagher, representing NYC with some deep and minimal house and techno. After Patrick we have fellow TFIB resident, Isomer Transition, performing his first Live PA in NYC in over a year. With an inclusion on an upcoming Fabric mix CD, and DJ support from the likes of Claude VonStroke, Troy Pierce and Ryan Elliott, 2009 is off to a good start for Isomer. Following Isomer’s inaugural 2009 Live PA we have two of New York’s underground DJ scene’s rising stars to finish off the night, Kendra ‘You know you know me so I don’t need a last name, fool!’ (of Wax Doll’s fame), and the in-demand Jon Schmidt. Kendra has promised to bring the dance party with a DJ set of infamous french house, and Jon will anchor the night with some deep and heady minimal.
To make sure that the night sounds *proper* we are bringing in some amazing sound reinforcement from our friend Nick down in Philly. He has been doing sound here in NYC lately at the Bunker, House and Home, with Jason Carter and has an amazing sound system. Part of the Future being Beautiful includes enough bass, so we are being sure to bring it.

If you are looking for an alternative to the main stream music events in NYC, look no further than The Future Is Beautiful.
TFIB is a fully multiplexed event brought to you by The Gestalt Foundation.

I know, late notice yet again. I think that is fine as this is for all those who are looking for an alternative to the traditional NYC NYE debauchery. I know that I am looking for one. And, keeping in tradition with my 2008 mantra of free IS good, tonight’s event is 100% free.

I have been invited to co-host and- DJ at Coco66 this evening in Greenpoint, from 8 - 2 am. Coco66 is located at 66 Greenpoint Ave, and there is no cover for the evening. It ends early, so for all of those that want to start slow and simmer all night long it is just might be a good place to ring in the new year than head on out for the debauchery later.
Here is what will be going down:
Coco66 is a Bar and Resturant that has good food and a warm atmosphere. I will be taking care of music for 2 parts of the evening, separated by my good friend Jule’s Jazz Quartet. He’s been playing at Coco66 every tuesday for about a year and the band is in top form.
For the early evening sounds I’ll be bringing classic records by Dave Brubeck, Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock, Chet Baker and the like. I’ve found some really amazing records lately and can’t wait to play them.
Following the jazz albums we will be switching it up, and Jules will be playing some salsa, jazz and other more latin flavors, as he is known to do. He is a classically trained Sax player from Miami, and he will be letting his musical roots grow deep.
As the night will progress, and the witching hour approches, we will be turning things towards the dark side, and we’ll be playing some Joy Division, New Order, Tones on Tail, Bauhaus, Love and Rockets, and that sort of thing. I will be throwing in some Aphex, Autechre, BOC, .snd, Willets, Byteone, Rob Model, Claro Intelecto, Monolake, … You get the idea.
And finally, for the late part of the evening, I’ll be DJing as Isomer Transition, playing released productions created under this moniker with new and unreleased tracks as well. It is a full-on DJ set unlike anything else you’ve heard from me.

For visuals for the evening we will be showing cinema classics by Andrei Tarkovsky and Tetsuo, presented in a way that you have never seen before. Truly exceptional.
Last weekend I curated and performed at a monthly event called “SINK”. Unfortunately the cops came and shut it down due to no liquor license. Here is a video of Burak’s visuals with some of what I was performing in the background.

April 26th // SINK @ Reboot
A Night of Electronica in Two Movements
XELA | CLOUTIER | PANDATONE | INSIDEOUT | PRAVEEN | VALEO | CHIKA | ARIKAN | SMITH
37 Avenue A (betw. 2nd and 3rd St)
$5 / 10pm - 4am+
For this edition of SINK we have put together a very eclectic lineup of music and visuals to be performed in two movements.
Movement One
To begin our night we have Percussion Lab’s infamous Praveen know for his tasty hip hop and laptop-pop selections. Following Praveen we have Music Related’s Pandatone performing some of the most beautiful noise to come out of a laptop since Finezze was last in town. And to close out the first Movement we have Type Records’ man-in-charge John Xela performing a very special DJ set of some of the most emotive and moving electronica to ever grace the sound systems of NYC. John rarely DJs state-side, so this is a very rare opportunity to get an earful of what the head of one of the UK’s most respected electronica labels throes down.
Movement Two
Following Xela we have RJ Valeo performing as Isomer Transition. For SINK Valeo will be mixing his own productions of recent and past into his Live PA performing a special 2 hour long live set, blurring the lines between experimental, minimal, live pa and dj performance. Closing out the night we have an amazing booking of Detroit’s Eric Cloutier doing a tag-team with Clink Record’s Insideout. This is an idea that Eric and Grant have been working on for sometime and they are excited to have the opportunity to realize their joint vision of what a proper minimal techno tag-team is. This performance promises to be the highlight of the evening as we have arranged with the venue’s management to allow us to go past the usual 4am stop point for the evening. How late we go, no one knows.
Visuals & Installations
For this evening we have booked two of New York’s best visualists, Chika and Burak Arikan to crate an enveloping visual environment. Chika, with her minimalist geometric patterns, has performed along side artists such as John Tejada, Bubblyfish, Sawako, and countless others. MIT Media Lab graduate and Ars Electronica presenter Burak Arikan has been a major player in the field of data visualization, lending his visual wizardry to (amongst others) Richie Hawtin for several of his Minus tours and shows. David Smith, an acclaimed NYC artist and Warp Records colaborator will present Indexed Color, a new installation of video and slide projection. The work engages with a variety of ways of looking at and thinking about color, from Bob Ross’s relation to color field painters, to color wheel aesthetics, to the effect of colored light on photographic film.

We’re excited to announce the return of Magda and her infamousparty, Gel & Weave. This isa one-time only event takingplace on Tuesday November 13th 2007. Now, we know thisisa bit of a strange day to do a techno party with Magda,Mike Servito, Igal Nassima, and RJ Valeo. A Tuesday ofall days! But, the stars aligned to make this thing happenandwe hope that you will come out and join us for what promises to be a really greatnight of music, featuringsome of the best talents that Berlin, Detroit and NYC have to offer. So take Wednesday off, grab your activator, and be prepared to get your snake on!
Currently residingin Berlin, a relative stone’s throw from her hometownof Zywiec in Poland, Magdaseems to have found a city thatmirrors her own attitude to life - no restrictionsandcer-tainly no compromise. It’s a philosophy that also flowsthrough her musicproductions and her DJ sets and has madeher a vital artist on the Minus roster. Her ability toguide the audience through the dark recesses of contemporaryminimalismbefore delivering them back safely into thelight means her name is never far fromthe lips of discerningclubbers and fellow DJs alike.
A Detroitlocal favorite for years, Servito has finally madethe move to Brooklyn. As a DJ,he is best known for thevariety in his sets and his impeccable musical knowledge, traitsthat have steadily earned him the respect of hispeers. As he grew up Detroit, hewas influenced by localradio at an early age, and began DJing over a decade agoduringthe heyday of the rising De-troit electronic musicscene. Servito has played inNYC many times including theBunker, this past August, as well as at the originalGel & Weaveseries, back in 2002.
Originally fromIstanbul, Igal moved to NYC to pursue his passionfor dance music. The growing minimaltechno movement inNew York City proved to be a proper home for his glitchy, offcenter style of Djing. Influenced by the concrete ofthe city, the rawness of Brooklyn’sstreets, and his passionfor techno, he created loft.n.space, a late-late-nightafter-hoursparty series hosted with fellow NYC transplantand DJ, Vadim. He has played alongsidethe talented DJsand producers such as Ryan Elliot, Ryan Crossan, HakanLibdo, TimXavier and Nick AC. Igal currently holds courtat NYC’s latest addition to the undergroundminimal technoscene with a residency and curatorial seat at LESS.
Valeo, bornin New York, is a seasoned producer and performer, perhaps best know for his seminalalbum “September” onthe UK’s Type Records. Recently, in contrast to previous releases,he has been focusing his meticulous beat programmingand production skills on craftingsubtle and heady techno. His latest explorations journey through the subtle interplayofrhythm & bass and minimally placed melodic elements, leading the listener tofind solace in the negative spacesinbetween these juxtaposed of his productions. As all ofhis music has been, these pro-ductions are influenced bythe minimalismof microsound, glitch and idm, industrialand new wave, and by technology itself.
The Return of Gel & Weave is brought to you by vivianne’sprojects and transelectronic.net
