With the proliferation of the Multi-National Corporations (known as Multinats) in the past 400 years, and the control that they exhibit over commerce and terrestrial real estate, the real power of the Earth Governments has become less and less. The governments still exist, and have geographic domains, but it is the corporations that control commerce and the economy of the Earth. Democracy has completely given way to capitalism, and in a world where money is the primary controller of everything, and money is controlled by the Multinats, the idea of a nation or country having control over it’s population is no longer a reality.
